Oh Memphis

What an unbelievable game Yesterday! I wanted to take some time to see if I still felt the same way about a certain Memphis Depay and sure enough, I do!1

Let's start at the top, I truly thought that LVG made the right decision to start the same team that won in the week against Stoke. Fellani to me was the only questionable selection but he didn't have a terrible game. Mata is proving what I hae always believed and that is he plays best as a number 10. Himself and Rooney were just brilliant with Martial just as good! Jesse for me had a good game but his finish was just world class and could have been MOM just for that strike!

I think we played well against a much better looking Chelsea. We should have taken the 3 points. Oh how we should have. That brings me to Memphis... what a half arsed effort at a pass to Schneiderlin! What made it worse was that he was the freshest man on the park and just didn't give a damn to get the ball he lost! I'm sorry but that single act to me lost us the game! He has been such a let down ever since making his move to Old Trafford. He just doesn't know what it means to play for the United crest!

I can see why LVG has problems with him! Thinks he is Ronaldo but plays like Bebe. Memphis, you have a long way to go before you can get the status that you think you have. That said I think LVG is sort of turning the corner. The team is playing much more attacking football and it's good to watch as well. Let's hope we keep on the track!

Luke Shaw

After an amazing performance against arch rivals the Scouser, it seems United are back to the drawing board with a lacklustre performance against PSV. Or is it?

I must say that I was seriously impressed with United's performance against Liverpool this past Saturday! It had all the talking points we needed as United fans! A comfortable winning margin, solid all round play from the team and a goal on debut for Anthony Martial. To be honest I wasn't able to catch the majority of the match as I was at a family wedding, but I did manage to watch the goals and a fair chunk by streaming on my phone. I thought going forward we were excellent! We have all seen the comparison with Henry's goal against Liverpool with the one Martial scored and I for one am backing him to live up to his potential and huge price tag!

All in all a win against Liverpool is always welcomed and especially with a performance like that!
A great welcome back to DDG and the signing of a new 4 year contract will only mean good things for United by having him play and if he still wants to leave, a better buyout clause for United. Like I said in one of my previous posts, I backed United to play hard ball to have this exact situation unfold! DDG will always be a fans favourite and welcome addition to any team.

Last night's game against PSV was just hard to watch as I felt it showed just how much we need another established striker! Martial was weak but don't get me wrong! I am still backing him and know age is on his side. Luke Shaw's injury was horrific! What a start he has had to the season and for him to be sidelined with an injury like a double fracture is just a cruel blow! My thoughts and prayers are with him and hope he will come back stronger! United could have easily been 3-0 up at half time. They come back from the break almost a dejected team! Could it have been the news of Shaw's injury at halftime that played it's part on the team? I think it might have been, as the response on social media from the players after the game was emphatic! A real show of team spirit and togetherness. Maybe they will rally now and use this unfortunate incident to push on and start gelling!

I hope so! For United's sake and Shaw's!

The Dust Has Settled

The dust has settled on the transfer deadline day drama and what drama there was.

Personally I was a happy man waking up to the news that the David De Gea’s (DDG) move to Real Madrid had fallen through. United potentially (I say potentially, as we don’t know if Louis Van Gaal (LVG) would want him to play for United, or whether DDG would want to play for United during this time) have DDG for four months until the next transfer window. In the four month can we get the best out of DDG and possibly change his mind about his United future? That said, if he wants to play in next year’s Euro’s, he will need game time to indicate to Del Bosque at what level his game is! I think he will try and make a turnaround in his United career, even if it is for 4 month or possible the whole season to make the Spanish Euro team. That said I don’t think Real Madrid will want to take him in January being cup tied in the Champions League.

So the questions to be asked are will he make it work at United for the period he is there? Will he rethink his future and sign a new contract?

Part of the Drama was the welcome to Anthony Martial. A great young French talent there is no doubt about that! The questions that are evident are, is he worth the money? (36 Million Pounds) and is he the right player right now to solve the problems up front for United? I personally think he is a great signing and at 19 years old, has a big future ahead. Is he worth the money? He will have to answer that with his performances but I feel the expectation is going to be too high considering the goals United need from him up front this season. All in all a good signing for the future.

Bring on the International break and looking forward to United’s next BPL fixture against Liverpool.

The Start

Wow.. So I recently wanted to start Blogging about one of my passions, that being the great Manchester United! I was so happy to sign in to Blogger and see that I had already created an account some time back (4 years ago). Needless to say that I think I am going to give this a go and lets see how it goes!

Thanks for reading... The start of The United Review.

Championship winning & Relegation loom

This weekend see a massive game for United as they go up against Blackpool. Most would think that this would be just a formality as United has already secured their record 19th League title. Well what looms this Sunday will be anything short of a formality. With the stage set for emotions from both ends of the spectrum possible at Old Trafford this Sunday.

This said, United should walk away winners but with the Champions League Final 6 days after the Blackpool game, Blackpool will be hoping they could get a result against what many would believe a 2nd string United line up. That concept of a formality quickly gets less and less prominent. Will Sir Alex field his strongest XI? I think not. Will it be a game written into folklore history? You better believe it! No matter the result for United, it will be forever remembered as the day United got crowned league champions for the 19th time and the day that Blackpool got relegated on the same ground. OR the day Blackpool defied the Champions to keep their Premiership dreams alive!

The question will be how does the celebration of receiving the Barclays Premier League Trophy for United and the feeling of relegation for Blackpool get all rolled up into one?

The other possibility is that Blackpool win and the celebrations are one of unison!

I can tell you this, it will make excellent TV. Not even an epic screen writer from Hollywood could have scripted it any better!
